We will be closing accommodation bookings tomorrow night. All of the large motel style rooms have sold out, but there are plenty of student sized rooms still available (including doubles). All accommodation comes with breakfast.
We are also closing pre-booking of breakfast passes for people with no accommodation, but who like breakfast, on Thursday. No breakfast passes will be available for purchase at the convention itself as catering must be pre-arranged.
We will be closing pre-bookings and the Deluxe membership offer on Thursday night. T-shirts have sold like crazy this year, so if you don’t pre-order we may not be able to guarantee that we made enough in your size.
After Thursday night, the only place to buy a membership will be at the door on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. We will be able to process credit cards on site, although it is slow so the front-of-house team would really appreciate it if you could bring cash.
All pre-booking can be done at https://genghiscon.eventsmart.com/

The latest schedule:
There are some exciting updates and changes, so have a good look over it. You may need to plan your fun carefully with all of this exciting content!
Please also note that we are holding a couple of events that are late at night (after 10pm) and have a little “18+” symbol next to them. Please be aware that the symbol is there as a content warning for whom the material may be offensive or inappropriate. Consider the description carefully before rolling in.
Fans Funding Fans Announcement!
As you might remember from our blog back in June, GenghisCon has been raising money for an initiative called “Fans Funding Fans” (the link is here)
“Fans funding fans” was inspired by the various convention fan funds (there is a pretty great index here, ozfanfunds.com/) and “Hackers Helping Hackers” (hackershelpinghackers.com, another grass roots convention initiative), to keep science fiction, fantasy and gaming events accessible to all fans.
We are now accepting nominations for the recipients of around ten Full Weekend memberships and/or transport assistance for any person who may not otherwise be able to make it to the convention this year. We are doing this because Accessibility and Equity are at the core of everything the convention stands for and we want to do everything we can to get the whole community there (or as much of it as we can).

All nominations are strictly confidential.
Hey everyone! Here is the new draft of the convention schedule. We have rearranged a few things to suit the availability of our wonderful panelists.
If you are a panelist and haven’t seen your panelist notification yet, let us know by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are running a workshop or game, you should see your notification extremely soon.
Hey community! Genghiscon is running a New Years Eve BBQ at Bunnings in Subiaco (Homebase).
We are there all day, so come down, buy and sausage and say hi!
In other news, we would like to say thank you to everyone who posted feedback to the feedback form for the 2017 Genghiscon.
We have collected a lot of good responses as well of some constructive feedback on how we can make the 2018 event even better.
Rest assured that all feedback has been carefully considered in the way that we designed the 2018 event.
If you have anything to add to the feedback, it will be open until the second of January. After that, we will be picking one user who provided feedback at random and giving away a free full membership, just like we promised.
Pick your shirt colour!
If you buy your convention membership and t-shirt in the next week, you will be able to pick your shirt colour!
The shopping basket at http://genghiscon.eventsmart.com has been updated tonight to accept your size and a choice of:
If you order your t-shirt after 6 January you will still be able to pick a colour, as long as you choose black.
If you already ordered a shirt, worry not. There should already be an email in your inbox asking which colour you would like. (If there isn’t, send an Instant Message to our Facebook page (Genghiscon) or email us your choice at email@example.com)
Remember, the shirt is cheaper if you buy it as part of a deluxe membership bundle, so go do that!
The design is pretty great, which is all the more reason to buy the shirt!
The Genghiscon Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on 20 January 2018 at Trinity Residential College in Crawley at 6pm. We will provide a sausage sizzle dinner to anyone who turns up and participates.
During the meeting, we will be voting on a new committee to take us into the 2019 convention and raising a Special Resolution to propose changes to the Genghiscon constitution.
These changes will be nothing drastic, just some minor procedural changes to keep us out of trouble with the new legislation and a change of the dates for the Genghiscon financial year so that we can still have our AGM during January.
The proposed changes will be available after Christmas right here on the website, for review and comment.
In accordance with the ancient rites, this meeting has also been advertised in the newspaper (kind of a vintage, dead tree based information transfer medium), see below for the cutout.
You need to be a member to vote. If you don’t have a membership yet, visit https://genghiscon.eventsmart.com/ and sign up now!
Merry Christmas to all.
Attention congoers, sci-fi/fantasy fans, gamers and cosplay enthusiasts:
On the Saturday night of Genghiscon 2018 (and in keeping with the theme of “What shall the geek inherit?”), we will be holding an “End of the World” style costume party. In will involve music, fun, revelry and prizes for the best costumes.
During the day before the party, we will be holding workshops designed to help you design a clothing item or prop that looks like they came straight from the wasteland.
Why are we doing this? We want to engage more fully with the talented cosplayers in our community and also help to inspire and enhance the skills developing cosplayers who may be just starting out.
There won’t be a big formal runway and choreography style fashion show, just friends (that’s you!), music and a lot of fun costumes. We will give prizes away for costumes that are on theme for the end of the world as well as prizes for great cosplay that has nothing to do with the theme at all. The main idea is, after all, fun and community.
We are announcing this ahead of time so that anyone who is keen can get a head-start on their costume now. We are so excited to see what sort of stuff the community comes back with.
A couple of quick rules*:
-Please no costumes depicting distressing figures from current or recent history like (but not limited to) Nazis/Waffen SS, racial hate groups, enforcers for totalitarian regimes, CIA blacksite employees, Trump campaign staffers etc.
-Please also keep any props as props. If your prop sword/gun/blade/nunchucks/warhead/whatever could confuse a police officer in the dark (and potentially spark a regrettable reaction), please leave it at home.
-Please bear in mind that the event will be outside and persons under the age of 18 may be present. Please consider this when exercising judgement about what constitutes an appropriate level of attire (Dress for a convention, not a BDSM party ).
*This basic convention code of conduct stuff, there are no new rules here. If you are unsure, please feel free to reach out to a committee member in private and ask. We want to create an environment that is as safe and fun as possible and promotes a community atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable.
If you are not a “party person”, or just don’t enjoy the idea of prolonged exposure to bright lights and loud noises, there will be panels running during this event that are designed to cater for a quieter, less stimulating form of fun.
The Genghiscon quiznight is being held on the third of November at the RAAF association.
Hope to see you there!
Buckle up con-goers, October is going to be a massive month for events!
First of all, the September bookclub will actually be in the first week of October (for scheduling reasons). It will be on Friday October 6 and we will be looking at the legendary “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson. We are so excited for this one and can’t wait to talk about it with everyone! The event link is here and as ever, you can sign up on our Patreon here.
Secondly, we have the joint screening of Thor: Ragnorak with Swancon on Friday the 27th of October. Turn up to Reading cinema in Belmont at around 6pm (time to be confirmed). This movie looks like a lot of fun and will be even more enjoyable with a theatre full of fans from Genghiscon and Swancon. The facebook event is here. Tickets are $13 for Swancon or Genghiscon members or $15 for non-members. Please purchase your tickets before Monday 23rd October here.
Finally, Genghiscon will be cooking up a sausage sizzle at Bunnings Cannington all day on October the 29th. Come down, buy a sausage and support your con!
